YAM: Congratulations to student designers

Congratulations to all participants and teachers in the 2012 YAM Flag Contest! After careful consideration from the judges, I am pleased to announce that Campbell Rogers from Letort Elementary School is the winner of YAM Flag Contest (her teacher is Demi Hausemen). Pennsylvania Theme: Art Shapes the World

Congratulations to 2011 YAM flag design contest winner,Chloe Wszolek 6th Grade, Hillcrest Elementary School. Teacher: Joy Reinstein

This year there is a nationwide event planned for Youth Art Month – School Flags Across the U.S. Flying High. Schools throughout the United States will hold flag design competitions. Each state will select a design which will be made into a 3’ x 5’ flag and flown in Washington, D.C. during the month of March. Every art teacher is encouraged to involve your students, from Kindergarten through Grade 12, in designing a YAM flag. You may approach it with your students in any creative way you would like. Please send designs to Ashley Gogoj, Youth Art Month Chair for Pennsylvania. Read all directions and specifications carefully!

Directions for Participation
Each teacher may select submit one flag design.

Mailing Flags by Snail Mail:

• Flag designs are to be 6” by 10” in a horizontal format. Center the sign on larger sheet (9” by 12”) to allow for matting. See the template provided.
• The design should be in color. It may be created in any medium. Keep in mind how it would look if reproduced as a 3 X 5 foot flag.
• The design should reflect our state theme, “Art Shapes the World,” and display the YAM logo somewhere in the design (the logo can be found here Yam_Logo.PDF).

Mailing Flags through E-mail:

• High resolution image file in JPEG (.jpg) format
• Flag design may be made with a computer program or flag designs may be scanned at high resolution to submit by e-mail.
• Flag designs are to be 6” by 10” in a horizontal format.
• The design should be in color. It may be created in any medium. Keep in mind how it would look if reproduced as a 3 X 5 foot fabric flag.
• The design should reflect our state theme, “Art Shapes the World,” and display the YAM logo somewhere in the design (the logo can be found here Yam_Logo.PDF).

Required Information for each Participant:

• Please affix the information below on the back of the flag design or as an e-mail attachment.                  *Template provided above
• Student’s name, age, and grade
• Student’s home address, e-mail address, and phone number
• Teacher’s name and PAEA/NAEA # (teacher must be a PAEA/NAEA member)
• School name, address, and phone number
• Teacher’s home phone number & e-mail address
• All of this information is necessary for further communication.

Due Date:

                  Postmark on or before December 7, 2011: Due date for each teacher to send ONE entry to the state selection. Only one design will be accepted from each participating teacher. Please mail in a sturdy mailer with rigid cardboard to prevent creasing.

Judging:

An independent panel of judges will then select the design to be used for our Pennsylvania YAM            flag. A design from each division (Elementary, Middle, and High School) will also be recognized.
